My Twilife Partner, Fandango Sold 18% of all tickets for New Moon

Fandango, the nation's leading movie ticketing destination, announced today that it sold nearly 18% of all tickets for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon", which took in a projected domestic weekend box office of $140.7 million*.

"New Moon" is an unstoppable force on Fandango. Among the records broken by the film:
Top Advance Ticket-Seller of All Time: "New Moon" broke Fandango's advance ticket sales record, roughly five days before its release date, on Saturday night, November 14, 2009.
Top Daily Sales for 2009: "New Moon" topped Fandango's 2009 daily sales record on Friday, November 20. As of Friday afternoon, it was selling more than 14 tickets per second during peak periods.

Top Percentage of Tickets Sold for Opening Weekend: Fandango's dramatic ticket sales for "New Moon" represented the company's largest share of the opening weekend box office for a feature film in wide release.

The top five Fandango percentages for wide releases are:

"New Moon" (2009) - 18%
"Sex and the City" (2008) - 16%
"Twilight" (2008) - 15%
"Michael Jackson's This Is It' (2009) - 15%
"The Dark Knight" (2008)- 13%

"'New Moon' ticket sales have been sensational, as the 'Twilight' fan base continues to expand," says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer for Fandango. "The power of Stephenie Meyer's stories, along with the success of the first film, drove advance ticket sales, making the anticipation factor stronger than ever. We expect heavy repeat business throughout the Thanksgiving holiday week."

New Moon Takes #3 Spot on All-time Best Opening List!

Summit Entertainment now officially estimates that The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in $140.7M from 4024 theaters this weekend. This puts the film in third place for all-time opening weekends, behind The Dark Knight ($158.4M) and Spider-Man 3 ($151.1M) and ahead of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($135.6M). The film also hauled in $118.1M from 25 foreign countries for a worldwide total $258.8M.

In addition to becoming the new champ in midnight box office and single-day totals on Friday, New Moon has now shattered several other records as well. It was the #1 biggest non-summer opening weekend of all time and the biggest ever box office opening for an independent film (and widest indie release in history). New Moon also broke the record for fastest to reach $100M, beating The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3. Of the top 34 films with numbers released today, New Moon took in more than all the 33 others combined.

After its record-shattering $72.7M first day Friday, there was a 41% drop from Friday to Saturday when it took in $43.2M. This was about the exact same percentage decrease Twilight had one year ago (down 40.8% Saturday, down 41.9% Sunday). Another 40% drop going into Sunday, based on advance sales, tracking polls, and other industry formulas, is expected to bring in another $24.8M for a weekend total of $140.7M and a per theater average of $34,965. Audiences were 80% female with 50% under 21. Many international regions have yet to release the film. Sources expect New Moon to eventually pass $500M worldwide. Twilight ended its run with $385M.

For those who are new to the box office numbers game, it may seem odd to have these figures when Sunday isn't even over yet. But it is standard procedure to have weekend totals announced at this time. After the Saturday box office totals come in on Sunday morning, studios always estimate Sunday and come up with a weekend projection. Of course, Sunday and weekend figures can only be estimates at this point. The actual Sunday numbers aren't known until Monday. But many years and literally thousands of projections have yielded formulas that allow the industry to predict fairly closely what Sunday will be based on Friday and Saturday's numbers and, therefore, what the weekend will look like. The actual numbers that come in on Monday are usually not too far off from the estimates made on Sunday. They usually adjust slightly up or down but are rarely far off.

I LOVED New Moon & Here's Why!

****MAJOR MOVIE SPOILERS!!****

First of all, New Moon really exceeded my expectations...I mean when you have Twilight to base it off of, which lets be real, wasn't all that it should have been, what do you expect? Chris Weitz is a GENIUS and I hope to GAWD he directs Breaking Dawn!!

Some of the many things that made me go all fan girl during New Moon:

The breakup scene:
When Edward leaves Bella in the book I was shocked and felt her pain, and the movie made me do that as well. I cried, I did, I felt the hole in her heart like it was in my own. And, I wanted to punch Edward in the face.

Jacob & Bella's Chemistry: First off, yes, I am team Edward, I would totally choose him too. But, when I read New Moon (the second time) I really felt for Jacob and my heart broke for him. I wanted the movie to do that too, and it did, and more....I really did consider switching teams...ok don't kill me, but I mean come on...did you see him in the movie? Did you feel how much he loves Bella? Did it rip your heart out when Bella tells him (in his wolf form) not to make her choose, that she would choose Edward, that it was always him? Did it make you cry when he runs away? (Relax, I am Team Edward, but understand how she could love them both)

The Almost Kisses:
Of course when I saw the still of the Almost kiss I was all "you better not have them kiss in New Moon" but when it was almost happening, a part of me wanted them to go for it...to really kiss...and I didn't think that was possible! And all the times Bella hugs Jacob and especially when she pushes her fist lightly into his abs in her bedroom....DIE! Again...don't kill me, but I am actually looking forward to their kiss in Eclipse! (I know, right?!)
The Werewolves:
Seriously, they rocked! In human and wolf form! I was actually scarred of them when I first saw them! They were right on the mark! And the scene at Emily's house was a must! I loved seeing them all together like the pack they are and seeing Sam's love for Emily! :)
Alice Comes Back:
That scene had me...I teared up when Bella threw herself at Alice for that hug. Did you feel the feelings that Bella was feeling? I did! Were you totally stoked at how perfect that scene was with Bella & Alice and then Bella, Alice & Jake? I was! ***(I did wish they would have had the scene between Charile & Alice where they talk about Bella & Edward)***

Edward's Call to The Swan's:
I was totally happy with how that scene played out! Seeing Edward's reaction when Jake told him Charilie was planning a funeral was heartbreaking. When he crushed that phone...AWESOME touch!
The whole Volturi Scene:
This was perfect for me! Aro was amazing as was Jane and the rest of the Volturi! I really felt the fear Bella must have had at that moment! And when she says she would take Edward's place in dying...perfect!

The months:
I LOVED LOVED LOVED how they went through the depression months! The whole thing...that we "saw" them passing, how she was at her window in the same place during the months passing, how life outside was going on...the song 'Possibility' playing...PERFECT! Kudos Chris!
The humor:
I thought the humor was really placed well and appropriate! I laughed out loud at many parts! Charlie cracked me up! As did Jacob & Bella! Many parts had me laughing! I loved that!

The Song placement:
One word: perfect!
The acting
The acting was awesome if you ask me! Taylor did indeed bring it as promised! And Kristen was amazing portraying Bella, I really felt Bella's depression! Awesome all around!

I loved the movie....can you tell?! I am still having mixed feelings about the ending...only because I didn't want it to end. It was so abrupt.....but now I can't wait for Eclipse?

Who's got the Eclipse countdown banner?! ;)

I would love to hear your thoughts! Leave me a comment about what you loved or didn't love about the movie!
