Twilight fans have come to know that book-to-screen adaptations can sometimes leave little nuanced details by the wayside.
Of course, no one would contend that Jasper Hale's backstory setting in Eclipse is but a small event, but exactly how it'll be presented on-screen in The Twilight Saga; Eclipse remains to be seen.
The first, and perhaps most obvious, clue that the film would include a visual depiction of those events was the casting list.
Kirsten Prout and Catalina Sandino Moreno were chosen to portray the characters Lucy and Maria, two whose decision to transform and keep Jasper as a personal soldier leads him to not only become a vampire, but to become one who deigns to battle newborns and later resent his way of life (or undeath).
Adding to that information is a recent interview with the New York Post in which Jackson Rathbone revealed a few important details about how his character's backstory would play out in the film.
We do a little segue/backstory in "Eclipse", when he was turned during the Civil War. We get to see his more aggressive tendencies. When you’re first turned into a vampire, that’s when you’re at your most ravenous, most vicious – so you see Jasper go through that. It was a lot of fun to bring out the darker side of Jasper that he’s been holding back.
