Taylor Lautner is MTV's #4 Man of 2009

In early 2008, li'l Taylor Lautner was getting his learner's permit, hoping "Twilight" might get him some attention, and trying on his itchy Jacob wig for the first time. Now he's on the cover of dozens of magazines, adored by fans and one of the hottest actors in Hollywood. Not bad for a 17-year-old — and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

2009 Highlights: As the calendar page turned to 2009, there were few entertainment stories as compelling as Taylor Lautner's crusade to convince the "Twilight" powers-that-be to employ his buff new bod for "New Moon," with co-stars like Ashley Greene, Elizabeth Reaser and Kristen Stewart among those firmly in his corner. The 17-year-old "Twilight" star spoke extensively about his dedication to the material and his workout regime, which delighted fans and convinced Chris Weitz that his casting search for Jacob was over before it really began.

Once he happily got back to work on the "Twilight Saga," Taylor surfaced only rarely to do things like unveiling first-look footage from "New Moon" at the MTV Movie Awards, or arriving at the Video Music Awards to debut an expanded trailer alongside co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Keeping his nose to the grindstone, Taylor left it up to others to determine whether he was "swoon-worthy."

Robert Pattinson MTV's #6 Man of 2009

In 2009, all eyes were on RPattz. Despite only releasing one movie, there were few people whose face sold more magazines, whose every word made more of a ripple and whose public appearances caused such a stir. Under such pressure, a lot of 23-year-old actors would end up getting into trouble, indulging to the point of excess and disappointing their fans. But somehow, the uniquely suited-for-stardom Robert Pattinson took it all with a good-natured grin and self-deprecating charm. In "Twilight" and beyond, his future seems so bright that he'll likely be sparkling for quite some time.

2009 Highlights: We all know Rob had a busy 2009, and everybody had their own thoughts on what he should do after "Twilight." Few saw his first move coming, however, as he dropped out of the indie flick "Parts Per Billion," leaving producer/star Rosario Dawson sad but promising the show would go on. In February, he showed up at the Oscars and stole attention away from stars as big as Brad and Angelina. Despite expressing fears that he might become "Twilighted out" while shooting "New Moon" and "Eclipse" back-to-back, he nevertheless got back to work as Edward Cullen.

At the MTV Movie Awards, Rob unveiled a new trailer from "New Moon," Kristen Stewart left him longing for a cold shower, and he cracked up watching KStew fumble her trophy. During an exclusive interview, he promised that "New Moon" would look "amazing." Rob later returned for the Video Music Awards alongside Kristen and Taylor Lautner and helped raise eyebrows with their fashionable duds.

Despite rumors that his reduced screen presence in "New Moon" would keep him away, Rob made a surprise appearance at San Diego's Comic-Con to show off footage from the movie, reflect on a hallucinating Bella and hang out with the geeks. Things sure were a lot different than they were a year ago — even if Rob insisted he's stayed the same.

In the midst of all the hype, rumors and insanity, Rob actually managed to make movement on some non-"Twilight" movies in 2009. His romantic drama "Remember Me," opposite Emilie de Ravin, had a memorable time shooting in New York, which appears to have left him brooding after that time he was almost killed by a taxi — or barely grazed, depending on whom you ask. He also signed on to "Unbound Captives," a western co-starring Rachel Weisz that offered Rob the chance to play a character who "can't really be more different from Edward." He also signed on to "Bel Ami," a film that pits him opposite Uma Thurman as a "totally immoral character."

A Look Back On Robert Pattinson's 2009

But all that paled in comparison to when he hit the "New Moon" premiere, looking fashionable as he greeted the fans and talked about the good and bad parts of being, well, him. Fans freaked out when he hit the Hot Topic tour opening night, and in a very revealing Rough Cut with MTV News, he spoke about his lack of endorsement deals, why "New Moon" is his favorite "Twilight" book, what he loves about Kristen and Edward's annoying habit of parking his Volvo across multiple parking spaces.

To make a long story short, "New Moon" had a record-shattering opening and became one of the biggest films of 2009. Now, with Taylor Lautner hosting "Saturday Night Live," we continue to hope that RPattz can't be far behind — so let the guy write a sketch already! Edward might be a jerk, but of all the dudes who hang out in our office on a regular basis, Rob will always remain our favorite seasonal vegetable.

10 'Twilight' TV Shoutouts From MTV

MTV rounded up 10 totally "Twilight" TV shoutouts (in no particular order) & here they are:

1. "The Office"

The NBC series gets not one, but two gold new moons—see what I did there?—for their hilarious "Twilight" twofer. The first took place during the Halloween episode "Koi Pond" when the employees of Dunder Mifflin organized a haunted house featuring two bloodsuckers—a traditional Count Dracula (Creed Bratton) and one we can only assume was meant to be Edward Cullen (B.J. Novak). When the Count cries "I want to suck your blood!" Edward (a.k.a. Ryan) responds, "That's really not the trend in vampires right now." So true! And then, just last night, Jim (John Krasinski) bought Kelly (Mindy Kaling) an Edward Cullen poster. We knew we loved this show for a reason!

2. "Vampire Diaries"

Skewering its vampire competition (and arguably the franchise that cleared the way for the series' own success), bloodsucker Damon (Ian Somerhalder) cozies up to a copy of Stephenie Meyer's original tome. "What's so special about this Bella girl?" Damon asks his human chew toy Caroline (Candice Accola). "Edward's so whipped." When she asks why he doesn't sparkle in the sun, he responds, "Because I live in the real world where vampires burn in the sun."
See a clip of Damon mentioning Twilight HERE (for some reason I can't embed it here)

3. "Jeopardy"

I'll take Robert Pattinson for $200, Alex. Oh, if only. During the quiz show's recent Teen Tournament an entire category was dedicated to "Twilight" The Novel. Any die-hard fan would have made it to Final Jeopardy with these easy peasy questions. We won't give away the answers in case you want to play along. Check out the "Jeopardy" airing here!

4. "Cougar Town"

Who knew Courtney Cox was a Twilight Mom? On the Nov. 4 episode, 40-something Jules (Courtney) confessed to hunky neighbor Grayson that she had a naughty dream about him. When he seemed a little too pleased with himself, she deflated his puffed-chest with this laughable admission: "Relax stud, I have sex dreams about everybody—the president, Gene Simmons, Edward from 'Twilight.' Oooh, that sweet Edward." But seeing as Edward is really in his 100s, that doesn't make Jules much of a cougar after all.

5. "SNL"

It took the usually timely sketch-comedy series a year after the first film's release to lampoon it, but "SNL" finally sank its teeth into "Twilight" with the awesome parody "Firelight." Perhaps it was worth the wait just to see Taylor Lautner's maybe-girlfriend Taylor Swift brood as Bella Swan. Check out the entire parody here!

6. "Criminal Minds"

During an investigation, the crew attempts to hack into a laptop and has success with the password "Cullen," much to the consternation of Dr. Spencer Reid (a.k.a. our past Hump Day Hottie Matthew Gray Gubler). "What's 'Twilight'?" he asks. Oh, where to even begin? We guess that guest appearance by Jackson Rathbone last season didn't leave much of an impression on Spencer, huh?

7. "90210"

Dunder Mifflin employee Ryan wasn't the only one to dress as a "Twilight" universe member this Halloween. So did Liam (Matt Lanter) on "90210." OK fine — not really. Still, during the show's costume party—the one in which Teddy (Trevor Donovan) is indeed garbed like Count Dracula—Liam is asked by a party-goer if he's supposed to be a certain bed-headed Brit. "You're Rob Pattinson, right? I can tell, 'cause you have messy hair." That's what you get for wearing flannel in Beverly Hills.

8. "Hannah Montana"

Miley Cyrus' now-defunct Twitter account isn't the only place she name drops RPattz. In an episode of her Disney series, Miley talks about potentially being set up with Rob. Real-life Miley, however, didn't feel the warm fuzzies for the actor until a few months ago tweeting, "Gave a hug to Rob Pattinson today. Ok girls I get it now. So cute. Sorry 'Robby' bout all my bashing in my past : )."

9. "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon"

Host Jimmy Fallon must really enjoy hanging from trees and affecting a British accent, because he's made his gag "Robert is Bothered" a recurring bit on his show. After taking jabs at sharks and Snickers, our favorite is still the original when RPattz rumbles with "Harry Potter" costar Daniel Radcliffe.

10. "Attack of the Show"

Though the final installment of the "Twilight Saga" has yet to be greenlit for the big screen, the folks over at G4 wasted no time putting together a "Breaking Dawn" spoof featuring Peter Facinelli. It must be seen to be truly appreciated — watch now!

Taylor Lautner Talks Jacob's Transformation in 'New Moon'

MTV: There are a lot of shirtless moments in "New Moon," and some critics have called them gratuitous. As an actor, do you find it hard to not also laugh at some of those scenes?

Lautner: [When Jacob] wipes her blood? Seriously, I start laughing so hard every time I see [that scene]. "Oh, you're bleeding? Let me fix it." It's so embarrassing. Here's the thing: There's a reason he's not wearing clothes all the time. When he transforms, all his clothes get shredded; he can't help it. And when he goes into the woods to get something to put on, so he's not naked, it's just a ripped pair of jean shorts. And he's also hot. He's 108 degrees, so that's another reason.

MTV: Now that you've got all these muscles, will you only accept those kinds of roles from here on out?

Lautner: Look, I love this character, I love this story. Putting on the weight and not wearing much clothing was required by the role. A year from now, if I love a character that requires me to lose 40 pounds, I'm ready to do it.

MTV: What do you see as the key difference between fans who call themselves Team Edward and those who are Team Jacob?

Lautner: Well, Edward and Jacob are complete opposite guys. They are hot and cold. [He laughs.] Literally. I personally love Jacob and Bella's relationship, how they began as best friends and it starts to grow into something more and more. Both guys are in love with Bella. Both guys are always going to be there for Bella, and they're protective. Ultimately, I think it's about what kind of guy you like.

Robert Pattinson Talks About Future Projects & Says Non-Twilight Territory is Scary!

"It's definitely different," he said of being a famous actor as opposed to a struggling one. "You get offered stuff that you would never dream of getting offered before, but that's also scary. You don't have to audition for anything. [But] I don't want to do a movie just so it gets made. ... You have to question yourself a lot more.

"Before 'Twilight,' I did any movie that I got [offered], and you'd try and make the best of it afterwards," he explained. "But now, you're expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well. You can't just mess around. People are like, 'We're employing you to be here, as a star and an actor.' It's difficult, and it's scary."

Twilight Saga Stars Reveal What They're Excited for in Eclipse!

I thought I would repost this as I feel it might have gotten lost in all the New Moon Mania this weekend!

In "New Moon," fans will be introduced to the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob. Choosing between Robert Pattinson's and Taylor Lautner's characters is sure to drive Twilighters mad.

In fact, Kristen Stewart revealed to MTV News on the red carpet of the NYC screening of "New Moon"on Thursday (November 19) that even she can't wait to see the intense mess play out in next year's "Eclipse."

"I'm looking forward to seeing the love triangle actually becoming a problem," she said. "We sort of innocently touch on it in 'New Moon,' but it actually becomes something that is very, very real."

New Moon Cast Answers Fan Questions!

MTV chatted with the cast and asked them questions from the fans (except me...I didn't know I could ask questions...did you):

Nikki Reed

Q: In "New Moon," Rosalie is the one who tells Edward that Bella has died. Do you think that Edward had a right to know, or do you personally think it was none of her business to tell him?

Reed: I am always going to come to Rosalie's defense and say that she wasn't just trying to hurt him. I mean, he is her brother and she does love him. She felt bad for how she has treated their entire relationship, and maybe it was her way of taking the initiative and wanting to be the one to break the news to him. She wasn't lying to him; this is what Alice thought and what she told Rosalie. So Rosalie felt the need to break the news to Edward.

Kellan Lutz

Q: What is the one question that you hope you never get asked again in an interview?

Lutz: Do I wear boxers or briefs? I think it's such a funny one, and there's always someone — and they're usually older than 50 — who asks that question.

Q: What is the one question you wish were asked more often?

Lutz: Well, I'm really into charity work and telling people about that. It's always hard to get to that answer [during an interview]. Talking about the charities that I'm involved in, helping families and kids, is really something that I'm involved in and really near to my heart. Just showing love to molested kids and giving them a birthday and telling them that God loves you and it's OK to have fun and smile, to give them a stuffed animal and watch them be happy. I wish I could talk more about the charities that I'm involved in and that we have so much opportunity in the end to make a difference out there.

Edi Gathegi

Q: Have you bought anything exciting with your "Twilight" earnings?

Gathegi: I bought a plane ticket home to see Mom. That's exciting!

Q: What does Mom think of "Twilight"?

Gathegi: Oh, she loves it! But Mom is not the perfect gauge, because she's Mom. My mom is very deeply religious, but she loves "Gone Baby Gone." I'm throwing F-bombs everywhere [in that movie]; I'm killing people. And she's like, "That's brilliant!" But I live beneath my means, because that's important. As an actor, you never know what is going to happen. You don't know when your next job is going to come. I mean, I'm doing all right now, but after "New Moon," I don't know. So you have got to prepare. It's an unsteady lifestyle, and you have to be smart about the money that you make. You might need it later on down the line.

Nikki Reed Talks New Moon, Shirtless Taylor & More

Nikki Reed talks to MTV about New Moon, her favorite scene & the nice addition of the wolves to the saga:

MTV: What's the biggest difference, in your personal opinion, between the three "Twilight" books currently being filmed as the "Saga"?

Nikki Reed: The biggest difference? Well, I know the similarities — it's an ongoing love story. I guess the action increases and the excitement and visual stimulation. But I think "New Moon" really revolves around this intense love triangle, and with "Eclipse," it's more heightened.

MTV: What's your favorite scene in "New Moon"?

Reed: Anything that Taylor Lautner is in. Seriously, the kid is — he's not a kid, he's a young man — but he's incredible. And I'm not saying that because he takes his shirt off in every scene. [Laughs.] Seriously, you forget that he's half-naked in every scene, because he is so incredible. He makes this film amazing.

MTV: Tell us about your favorite new character to join the franchise, who wasn't in the original film.

Reed: All of the wolves. They bring a very obvious warmth. To see people actually interacting and wrestling and touching each other and rolling around in the mud and being a bunch of boys? That was a nice addition. Because the vampires are all very ... cold. It sounds super cliché, but there was a lot of interaction, a lot of human interaction [in "New Moon"]. It was nice.
